About us

The emergence of 2 Simmons started at sea

services

The early years

Two years after meeting, Bill and Karma purchased a beautiful Colin Archer designed sailing ketch and began a life altering adventure. For three plus years, they sailed the west coast of North America from northern Canada to the southern end of Mexico concluding with 20 day offshore voyages to Hawaii and Canada.

While sailing, we talked about our plans for after our return. We hit upon the idea of a circular life which we defined as co-mingling our art, work and play into a constant stream of creative endeavors.

Art is everywhere!

During long walks in the coastal villages and hiking the mostly uninhabited islands, we paid strict attention to fine details of design, taking equal note of the unique human constructions and natural formations. From the mud and fiber termite nests suspended in the branches of mangrove trees, to the wind bent firs and constant fog and rain of northern Canada, and the exposed rebar of not yet realized second floors of many Mexican homes, everything has potential for design.

Building our Vision

services

Starting from scratch

One of the most intriguing things about life on a sailboat, whether you are eating, walking, sailing or anchoring, in the end, most of your thoughts and actions revolve around tending to this circular existence. It was this lesson of a singular focus that dominated our discussions, leading to the design and building of our barn/studio/living space in a small draw on the outskirts of Spokane, Washington. It is here that we have successfully incorporated Art, Life and Work.

Our shop and living space was designed to allow us to view our projects at any time from any angle. We can see our work over our morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

Together

It's our belief that art brings life to any room or space it occupies and that art can be found everywhere. We prefer to surround ourselves with art whether ours or a fellow artist. A room full of art is a great place to reflect and imagine. You are motivated to reconsidered your notions about your own work. Perhaps, a new perspective is required.

Most of our energies go into the stuff we build. We work in the shop together as much as possible and, in the end, most of our creations are a true joint venture.

We work together and we play together. We are a team in the full sense of the word.
